Crossed Wires

2019
In 2016, Bill Gates made a post on Facebook in which he complained about the messy wiring in Thailand and how people illegally tapped into the grid. His statement sparked outrage from Thai netizens who claimed the wires were for communication purposes only. Following the heated debate, he silently deleted his post.

Shortly after, the Thai government, already having “lost face” by the international press, and urged by the “Prime Minister” Prayuth Chan-ocha, announced a plan to spend around 50 billion baht ($1.4 billion USD) to put 79 miles of cables underground beneath 39 roads in Bangkok and surrounding areas. The project deadline was 2020.

At the time of this zine’s publishing, 2019, not much had changed, and still to this day, although the topic is randomly raised, it is just as suddenly forgotten.
